A phenomenological model is offered for the mechanism of a drastic increase in the desorption flow density of the native metal atoms under the influence of a high-power density (∼107 W/cm2) electron flux incident on the metal surface. The possibility is discussed of building an electron-optical system capable of producing a submicron probe of a ∼107 W/cm2 power density.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
