Oral candidiasis is the most common opportunistic infection in human immunodeficiency virus infection. History, clinical examination, investigation and diagnosis of oral candidiasis is important for early diagnosis and treatment of HIV infection. Pseudomembranous candidiasis and erythematous candidiasis are associated with immune compromised state and so it is of prognostic significance like reduction in the viral load and CD4 positive T lymphocytes. In this case report, we present a case of a 34-year-old physically challenged asymptomatic male who came for replacement of mandibular anterior tooth who was diagnosed with all four common variants of oral candidiasis which predicted HIV infection. Quality of life of the patient was improved after the diagnosis and treatment.
Preparation of an in-situ gel containing lycopene and raspberry plant formulation and analysis of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects is described. Lycopene is known for its anticancer and antioxidant activity. It induces apoptosis, thereby reducing the cancer cells, and also reduces the injury of cells due to oxidative activity. Similarly, raspberry also contains antioxidants properties which can help to reduce oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. This study includes extracts containing 25% of Raspberry and 10% lycopene, carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, Carbopol, sodium chloride, and distilled water. This in-situ gel was then tested for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory assay using DPPH (2, diphenyl 1-picryl- hydrazyl- hydrate) and bovine serum albumin (BSA), antioxidant assay revealed that the inhibition percentage was more with 50 μL (61.3) of gel and anti-inflammatory assay showed significant results with 10 μL (90.2) of gel. In-situ gel containing lycopene and Raspberry has significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity.
Marfan syndrome is a heritable condition that affects the connective tissues of Human body. It can affect any body systems including the skeleton, eyes, heart and blood vessels, nervous system, skin, and lungs. Estimates indicate that approximately 1 in 3,000 to 5,000 individuals have Marfan syndrome and most individuals with Marfan's syndrome have another affected family member which are due to new genetic mutations. We present to you an interesting rare case which reported to our hospital few months back with features of Marfan's syndrome. Without cardiac or respiratory involvement and associated Mutism and Hypogonadism. In the family no other member was affected.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
