ABSTRACT:Fedorowski, J. and Ogar, V.V. 2013. Early Bashkirian Rugosa (Anthozoa) from the Donets Basin, Ukraine. Part 4. Cordibia, a new protocolonial genus. Acta Geologica Polonica, 63 (3), 297-314. Warszawa.Cordibia pumila gen. et sp. nov. (Aulophyllidae, Dibunophyllinae) from the Lower Bashkirian E 1 Limestone of the Donets Basin, Ukraine is described. The term "protocolony" is formally defined as a growth form intermediate between the solitary and colonial. Protocolonies consist of protocorallites and verticils of non-reproductive offsets [i.e., the lost structures]. The early ontogeny of a protocorallite is compared to the blastogeny in the same species in order to establish characters in common during both processes and to document the usefulness of blastogeny for phylogenetic reconstructions. The short duration and abundance of the occurrence (Limestones E 1 up acme, E 1 1 ) of that species also makes it a good marker for the lowest Feninian (= Krasnopolyanian) strata in the Donets Basin.
-Corals from the middle part of the Mobarak Formation, exposed in the Kiyasar area of northern Iran, were examined for descriptions, age determination and indications of the paleoenvironment. New genera for the families Adamanophyllidae and Clisiophyllidae/ Amygdalophyllinae were established and three new species were described for the Bifossularia, Clisiophyllum and Spirophyllum genera. The age of studied corals is generally consistent with the early-middle Visean as previously was determined based on foraminifera. The absence of colonial rugose and syringoporid is a notable feature of these coral communities.
Lithology, corals and genesis of the Lower Carboniferous carbonate deposits of the Mokrovolnovakha Series in the South Donets Basin are considered. The studied deposits are formed during three eustatic cycles. Composition of carbonate sedi ments depends on sea depth, clay content and content of magnesium, iron, and silica in sea water. Depth of sea and content of clay particles in sea water may produce either photozoic or heterozoic environment of sedimentation. At regressive phases of cycles the anoxic conditions could exist. They form favorable environment for conservation of the organic matter. Sharp changes in the lithology and fauna during Tournaisian/VisJan and Early/Late VisJan times were caused by global events. The domanic deposits of the Styla suite are considered as a result of regional volcanic event.
