There is a general tendency in reporting nowadays, represented by the institutionalization of the environmental reporting in an increasing number of companies. The novelty of our work resides in the fact that this is the first study which analyses the consistency and comparability of the information included in integrated reports. The objective of this research is to determine to what extent the reporting of the environmental performance indicators, including energy, prescribed by the Global Reporting Initiative's guidelines is in line with the consistency and comparability principle. We analysed the reports published by the European organisations included in the Pilot Programme of the International Integrated Reporting Council. We used the following methodology. First, we compared the environmental reporting of 2016 from one company to another, splitting the sample in accordance with the industries. Second, we analysed the reporting practices of the environmentally-sensitive companies, including energy, in 2010, 2013 and 2016, in order to analyse the consistency of the information published. The results of the research show that the environmentally-sensitive companies, including energy, publish more information. Also, the score of information consistency is above average. The best consistency level is registered in the Basic Materials industry, followed by Oil & Gas and Industrials. Emissions and energy indicators are the most disclosed. This research is useful to understand how companies apply the consistency and comparability principle in practice. The importance of this article is given by the fact that consistency and comparability improve the quality of the sustainability reporting. Without consistency and comparability the information's relevance is very low.Energies 2018, 11, 3456 2 of 24 to two studies [13,14] investigating in 1999 and 2017 the sustainability reports published by 250 companies included in the G250 35% of the companies disclosed information on social, environmental and economic issues (commonly referred to as corporate social responsibility-CSR) in 1999 and 93% in 2017.As there are almost 400 reporting instruments in place [15], a major issue which appears regarding the environmental reporting is the consistency and comparability of the information. The most comprehensive and used guidelines in the area are the ones issued by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) [14]. Thus, the objective of our research is to analyse the consistency and comparability of environmental performance indicators (EPIs), especially the ones related with energy and emissions issues, published by the European companies included in the International Integrated Reporting Council's (IIRC) Pilot Program using the GRI guidelines. Consistency assesses that the information is constantly disclosed in time while the comparability evaluates the disclosure of the information from one company to another. By analysing all the EPIs as opposed to only the ones related with energy and emissions, we emphasize better the importanc...
The authors investigated how enterprise resource planning systems are implemented and employed in a transition economy. Specifically, a longitudinal case study was conducted to investigate the fit between context variables that is, variables describing the organizational factors and the business environment, and the enterprise resource planning system, and the impact of this fit on organizational performance. It is shown how the case company's enterprise resource planning system substitutes management techniques, facilitates strategy formulation, and implementation, thus significantly improving organizational performance.
Heavy work investment in various domains of activity has not been sufficiently explored. This paper investigates how accounting professionals in Romania perceived different aspects related to the heavy work investment during the coronavirus pandemic. Professional accountants devote, by the nature of their job, many hours of work. In March 2020, unprecedented measures were taken in Romania in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. These include the obligation to work remotely where possible. The study' objective is to establish the socio-economic implications generated by the COVID-19 pandemic vis-à-vis accounting professionals and the activities of the financial-accounting department within the organizations during the affected period. The data were collected between April and June 2020 by distributing a questionnaire online and were processed using the SPSS software. The research results show that professional accountants have adapted quite quickly to distance work. Work during the pandemic generated additional stress and fatigue, but had positive influence on the work-family relationship and productivity. The research results show that the respondents' perception of work was influenced by the following variables: the age of the respondents, the city where they work, the way of carrying out the profession (employee or freelancer), and the size of the company where they work. The results obtained can be used by managers and regulatory bodies.
The paper aims to present the importance of qualitative factors in determining the materiality level in an audit mission. According to the literature a quantitative approach of materiality is insufficient for appropriate decisions, therefore it is required a more serious treatment of this issue. Data collected in the research were processed using the Ordered Logit Model, and the results showed that there is a significant correlation between the materiality level and the sectors in which the audited companies operate, the auditor's experience in the field and the longevity of the relationship with the client. There is no any correlation between the materiality level and the needs of the users of financial statements or the management objectives. ARTICLE INFO
The research presents the interrelationships between banking performance, competitiveness and sustainability of the three banking systems and the impact of each sustainability variable selected on the other macroeconomic indicators in short, medium and long-time horizon. The empirical study involved the use of a panel Auto Regressive Vector methodology and was based on macroeconomic indicators relevant to the performance of the banking system (return on assets, return on equity, an annual growth rate of Gross Domestic Product), as well as indicators that can be assimilated to sustainability (renewable fuels used, CO2 emissions). The dependent variables were return on assets and the annual growth rate of Gross Domestic Product. The global sample analyzed comprises 29 countries, spread over three continents (Europe, North America, Asia), with data collected over a 10-years period (2011-2020). These countries together account for approximately 62% of global GDP (data from 2020). The research results show that as banks invest in green energy and sustainable products, competitiveness will also increase, which will have a negative impact on profitability in the short term. In the medium and long term, this impact will become positive also in terms of profitability increase. This strategic move to develop sustainable business models and to finance a higher percentage of green investments also adds extra competitive advantages, such as reputation and smart differentiation, from other less sustainability-oriented banking systems. The process impacts the systemic level, the macro perspective, the banking organizational level, the micro perspective, together with the perception of the customers.
