During the last few years the European regulations regarding harmful emissions from vehicles lead to the appearance of alternative propulsion technologies in mass production. Hybrid and electrical driving represent the main solutions used by the vehicles manufacturers to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions or to achieve zero emissions. Nowadays, the battery technology represents the main obstacle in developing the alternative powertrain solutions. The batteries used for the vehicle's powertrain can only store a small quantity of energy, compared to their weight and size, thus they are heavy and take up much space. To maximize the value of this energy and to obtain a maximum autonomy, it is necessary to use electrical motors with higher efficiency. The energy losses due to the heat generation are better seen during fast braking and fast acceleration. Generated heat, emphasized as losses, is having a negative effect on motor efficiency. Using simulation, the electric motor was integrated in a mock-up virtual electric vehicle to study its behavior during a predefined cycle. The functional model that was built is used to determine the energy consumption, the power losses, the electric machine behavior and to study the dynamic behavior of the vehicle.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
