Paclobutrazol (PBZ), a synthetic plant growth regulator, was applied to mango trees to control vegetative growth and induce flowering. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of PBZ and tip pruning on flowering, yield and fruit quality of mango trees, cultivar 'Palmer', in irrigated conditions in a semi-arid region of Brazil. Uniform trees were selected at a commercial farm located in Jaíba County, Minas Gerais, Brazil. A randomized complete block design experiment was used with two methods of pruning and five different dosages of PBZ (0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 g (a.i.) ml-1 PBZ), with four replicates and one plant per plot in a factorial combination. The PBZ was dissolved in 2 L of water and applied directly onto the soil. Vegetative growth parameters, reproductive characteristics, fruit quality and yield were evaluated. Differences among treatments were determined using analysis of variance at 5% of probability. Means separation among the treatments was performed using a Tukey's test, and regression models were developed. The dosage of 0.86 g (a.i.) ml-1 promoted a significant reduction in branch length. The different dosages of PBZ in conjunction with tip pruning produced significant flowering. Applying PBZ at 0.3 g (a.i.) ml-1 increased the yield per branch and fruit firmness and reduced fruit length, fruit weight, pH and soluble solids. The fruit yield was not affected by tip pruning or PBZ application.
-In pineapple fields, weed competition is exacerbated by the fact that the crop is small and has a very slow vegetative development. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of herbicides on growth, yield and quality of pineapple, cultivar 'Pérola'. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with four treatments and four replications. Treatments consisted of weeding by hoe and the herbicides diuron; fluazifop-p-butyl and atrazine + S-metolachlor applied in post-emergence. The characteristics evaluated monthly during the vegetative stage were stem diameter, D-leaf length, number of leaves, number of emitted leaves and percentage of natural floral induction. In the reproductive phase, evaluations were made of average fruit weight (g) with and without crown, fruits length and diameter, number of slip, slip-sucker and sucker type seedlings, determination of soluble solids and pH in the pulp. There was no effect of herbicide treatment on the vegetative growth characteristics. Stem diameter increased until 330 days after planting, showing a decrease after this period. The D-leaf grew over time in all treatments, although phytotoxicity symptoms were observed after the first application of herbicides. The traits evaluated on the reproductive phase showed no significant differences in response to treatments. Therefore, the use of diuron fluazifop-p-butyl and atrazine + S-metolachlor did not affect growth, yield and fruit quality of pineapple, cultivar 'Pérola'. Index terms: Ananas comosus var. comosus, weeds, herbicides, 'Pérola'. As características a...
This research aims to estimate correlations between agronomic traits and yield in Pome bananas, contributing to the elaboration of models for estimation of harvest. Agronomic traits were evaluated in 98 plants of 'Dwarf Prata' and 96 'BRS Platina', considered replicates and sampled at random. Correlations between the masses of the bunch, and hands and plant height; pseudostem perimeter at ground level, at 30 cm and at 100 cm in height; number of green leaves; mass of the bunch; number of hands and fruits per bunch; mass of the hands; mass, length and diameter of the stem, and mass of the fruit of the external row from the first to the tenth hand were estimated. The highest correlation coefficient between yield and vegetative traits for 'Dwarf Prata' and 'BRS Platina', was obtained for pseudostem perimeter at ground level, indicating its greater potential to compose harvest estimation models. The correlations between the masses of the bunch and hands with yield traits, for both genotypes, showed a higher potential for predicting the number of hands and fruits. Appropriate correlation estimates are associated with the fourth and fifth bunch, for the 'Dwarf Prata' and 'BRS Platina', respectively, using the mass of the fruit of the external row.
This study aimed to fit regression models for harvest prediction in Prata type bananas. The experiment consisted of plants and bunches of bananas carried out in Guanambi, BA, with genotypes Dwarf Prata (AAB) and BRS Platina (AAAB), planted at a spacing of 3.0 × 2.5 m, with irrigation. Measurements of vegetative and yield characteristics were sampled at random. Models of simple and multiple linear regression were estimated, considering as independent variables with highest correlation coefficients with the masses of the bunch (MB) and hands (MH). The simple linear regression models allow prediction of the masses of the bunch and hands, according to the number of hands (NB), with better precision, for both genotypes and at least 120 days prior to harvest. For the' Dwarf Prata', the equations were: MCA = -10.05 + 3.08NH; r² = 0.99, e, MPE = -12.38 + 3.55NH; r² = 0.99. For the 'BRS Platina' equations were: MCA = -1.37 + 3.02NH; r² = 0.97 e MPE = -2.74 + 2.88NP; r² = 0.97. The determination coefficients for the adjusted models ensure consistency of the regressions for the estimation of Prata type banana production.
