Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) was classified as rarely aggressive idiopathic benign intraosseous lesion that occurs mostly exclusively in the jaws. It occurs most frequently in young women. It is usually slow growing and non neoplastic lesion which exhibits a spectrum of clinical behavior ranging from non aggressive to aggressive variants. The striking feature of this case is its aggressive nature and presence of this lesion in the anterior part of maxilla which considers being a rare finding as the lesion commonly occurs in the mandibular region anterior to first molar.
Oral spindle cell lipoma is a rare lesion and until now only 26 cases have been reported in English literature. In this article we report a case of oral spindle cell lipoma presented to our institution in July 2011, as an asymptomatic solitary growth of the buccal mucosa in a 58 year old male patient. On histopathological examination the lesion exhibited an admixture of adipocytes and spindle cells with collagen fibres and numerous mast cells. Radicular cyst is the most common odontogenic cyst occurring in the jaws. The cyst is commonly found in relation to the maxillary anterior teeth in the third and fifth decade of life. Although multiple radicular cysts are not uncommon in the jaws, bilaterally symmetrical representation of these cysts is rare. Radiographs prior to extraction help in diagnosis of these cysts and thereby prevent further morbidities. We report a case of 16-year-old male patient who presented bilateral radicular cysts symmetrically in the mandible.
Aim and Objectives. Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a potentially malignant disorder associated with the usage of areca nut. Usage of processed forms of areca nut is popular among the youth and its carcinogenic effects are not well known. Due to large immigrant population, various patterns of areca nut usage are seen. The aim of this study is to assess the various quid chewing patterns and their association with severity of OSF. Materials and Methods. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 250 cases clinically and histologically diagnosed as having OSF lesion that were selected and subjected to a detailed habit history which was recorded through preformed questionnaire. The data obtained was statistically analyzed. Results. Among the 250 subjects, males were seen to be affected more than females within the age group of 26–35 years and were having clinical stage I OSF. A combination of processed areca nut and processed tobacco was used by the majority of the subjects with duration of 1 to 5 years, at a frequency of 3 to 5 quids per day. Conclusion. The present study confirms the association between oral submucous fibrosis and the quid containing processed areca nut and processed tobacco and also highlights the increasing youth population using the processed forms of areca nut.
Median rhomboid glossitis presents as a well-defined erythematous area seen along the midline towards the posterior aspect of dorsal surface of the tongue. It may have a "kissing lesion", in the area of the hard palate as a result of constant contact. Here is a case of 62 year old male patient having median rhomboid glossitis and kissing lesions on the hard palate.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
