A self-evaluation survey is one of the basic tools used by every higher education institution for the purpose of identifying and improving the quality of its educational services. A relevant segment of the self-evaluation procedure is the work of the HE teacher; the assessment is provided via a survey filled in by each course student's attendants respectively. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to show the advantages and disadvantages of the students' survey as a part of the self-evaluation process at the "Sv. Kliment Ohridski" University in Bitola, Republic of Macedonia. The research has a qualitative paradigm, i.e. the twelve survey statements within this survey are analyzed regarding the impact they have on the validity and objectivity of the results to be provided about the HE teachers' work quality, and regarding their relevance in the multidimensional teaching construct. The research has also a quantitative paradigm, i.e. an analysis of the opinions of 100 HE teachers of this University about the effects of the students' survey answers on their teaching, and an analysis of 200 students of this University about the efficiency of the survey they fill in. The research has a descriptive design. The methods used for processing the data and for gaining conclusions consist of analyses, syntheses and comparison. The research results indicate that besides the advantages, this students' survey has numerous disadvantages that should be taken into account because they influence both the validity and the objectivity of the grade given to the HE teachers' work. It consequently imposes the need for urgent revision of the survey questions.
Resting only upon projects, manuals, reports, and recommendations, so far, the ongoing gender-neutral language debate has not attracted broader research attention in the Macedonian language. Therefore, this qualitative study aims to provide thorough information on the Macedonian gender-specific nouns denoting profession/role by analyzing their entries in the current online Macedonian Dictionary and some documents, using the general inductive approach. Indicating that the singular/plural masculine generic nouns designating profession/role in one of their meanings refer to both sexes, the research results underpin the consequences of this usage, revealing the natural/grammatical gender collision, which latently contributes to women’s invisibility in society in general. The findings further suggest that some feminine derivations, which still have not been widely embraced due to the traditional values, and which perhaps sound slightly strange and even a bit humorous, do not depreciate women, and their usage should be endorsed and strongly encouraged.
The gender sensitive language (GSL), among other things, especially refers to the nouns denoting professions/roles which are used in the masculine gender form, including persons from male and female sex. The present paper analyzes gender matters content, and mainly the GSL to obtain a general picture of the Macedonia's maturity to join the extended GSL debate. The sample consists of large number of Internet sources related to gender topics and GSL, which are a result of searching on Google according to key word, and the analysis rests upon the qualitative content analysis and the interpretative-inductive method. The research results demonstrate that there are countless content regarding the strengthening of the equality between women and men, but there is a lack of content with respect to deepening the gender fairness through the language. The results show that there is sporadic use of the feminine nouns designating professions/roles as well, which indicates a positive direction with reference to GSL in Macedonia.
