Faced with the need to rethink production and consumption practices, the circular economy emerges as an alternative in the field of sustainable development, based on the principles of regeneration and restoration of resources. The reverse logistics promotes the flows of materials and information on the return of post-sale and post-consumer products, taking into account the principle of restoration of the circular economy, represented by the technical cycle. The volume of work that relates the reverse logistics and sustainability has been increasing annually, including the introduction of emerging topics and multidisciplinary perspectives, such as circular economy. The objective of this study is to provide a current holistic view of the literature that relates reverse logistics to circular economy by offering a taxonomy of the critical success factors of reverse logistics from the perspective of the circular economy technical cycle, a framework that shows the relationship between these concepts and a research agenda. The method adopted was the tertiary review of the literature, resulting in a sample of 66 articles. The agenda for future research was structured into: (i) development of the state of the theory on the subject; (ii) thematic approach; (iii) theoretical deepening in each of the five critical success factors. The dissertation makes a comprehensive critical survey of the state-of-the-art in relation to reverse logistics and circular economy in the context of the supply chain.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
