Complete molecular valence-electron spectra were measured for CO. Unexpectedly, discrete lines at low kinetic energies were found, superimposed on a continuous energy spectrum representing direct double-ionization processes. The appearance of these lines is discussed in the context of the formation
The relative transition probabilities at threshold for the photoemission of molecular nitrogen to vibrational levels of the Xe!.i). Aen u ). and Be!.n states of the Nt ion have been determined with high resolution threshold photoelectron spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation. These threshold cross sections are found to be strongly influenced by ionizing Rydberg states which are not necessarily apparent in the absorption or photoion spectrum of nitrogen. This interaction leads in the Xe!.;) state of Nt to rotationlike structure in the observed vibrational transitions and in the A erru) state to a smooth but non·Franck-Condon distribution of vibrational intensities. In addition to the cross section data. the molecular parameters for the X. A. and B states of N2 have been determined.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
