The salient results for the first two (2) years of a three year NASA LEWIS sponsored program to understand all aspects of performance deterioration for the CF6 family of large turbo fan jet engines are presented. The program includes in-depth reviews of hardware conditions to quantify performance degradation sources, documentation of observed deterioration trends, and analysis to assign performance degradation to specific parts condition. Actual test results are presented from a demonstrator program which indicated the program recommendations when applied for revenue service engines were effective.
