A high incidence of cold haemagglutinins with anti-i specificity was
found in serum samples from patients with massive splenomegaly of uncertain
cause in the Watut valley of New Guinea. The samples contained increased concentrations
of macroglobulin, 16—33% of which represented cold agglutinin activity.
Tropical splenomegaly constitutes another condition in which anti-i appears in
association with hyperplasia of reticulo-endothelial tissue.
