The objective of this paper is to design a compact multiband monopole antenna for a PDA phone. Using a simple inverted-U-shaped driven element, we observe that the proposed antenna resonates in the high-frequency band (1700-2568 MHz) for DCS, PCS, UMTS, and WLAN applications. The low-frequency bandwidth (881-1280 MHz), which covers the GSM band, is accomplished by a novel dual low-frequency mode method. The overall dimensions of this proposed antenna are 100 mm (length) × 60 mm (width) × 0.8 mm (thickness); it can easily fit into PDA phones and WLAN products. Herein, the design procedures and the simulated and measured values of return losses, radiation patterns, gain, and efficiency are presented and discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
