Sardinella lemuru is one of the fish species that dominate in the Bali Strait. Identification Sardinella lemuru with the others Sardinella in the Strait of Bali is based on morphological characteristics, whereas genetic identification of Sardinella lemuru in Bali Strait has not been done and variations genetic also unknown. This research aims to ascertain the type of Sardinella lemuru in the bali strait and Determine genetic variation and kinship based on cytochrome oxidase subunit (COI) gene. The method is performed by isolating DNA from fish organs and the results are amplified by the COI gene sequencing then performed to obtain the data sequence of Sardinella lemuru Bali Strait and analysed using the program MEGA 5.2. Results showed that lemuru in Bali Strait is Sardinella lemuru species with the degree of similarity BLAST analysis of 98-100%. 11 samples sequence of lemuru forming two large clad. The results also showed that the species of Sardinella lemuru and Sardinella longiceps different species with genetic distance> 0,019.
The objective of this research was to determine the optimum honey addition on kefir whey drink based on organoleptic quality (colour, aroma, taste)
Based on its LC50, stem bark extract of Plumeria rubra L was not toxic to lymphocytes. The goals of this experiment were to investigate the effect of stem bark extract of P. rubra L doses on apoptotic and necrotic lymphocytes. The cells were isolated from peripheral blood using density gradient configuration method to PBMCs. Then, they were cultured in well plates and treated with cisplatin and the stem bark ethanolic extract of P. rubra L in 0, 20, 130, 240, 350, 460, and 570 µg/mL. After 24 hours incubation, the lymphocytes in each sample were stained using annexin V and propidium iodide reagent and ran in a flow cytometer. The data gained were analysed statistically using Kolmogorov Smirnov, one way ANOVA, Lavene’s and LSD tests. The results showed that there were significant apoptotic cell percentage differences (p<0.05) among treatments (p<0.05), with the lowest of 2.22 ± 0.25% and the highest of 14.36 ± 1.06%. However, the necrosis’ was no different, with the lowest of 0.52 ± 0.18% and the highest of 1.85 ± 0.58%. In conclusion, the extract affect the percentage of apoptotic lymphocytes, on the contrary, did not influence the necrotic cells’.
Glutathione (GSH) is an antioxidant that functions to protect cells from oxidative stress. It is used for medical purposes, as an additive in foods and cosmetics industry. The magnitude of these applications results in increased demand for glutathione every year, however, the cost of glutathione is high. The production of glutathione using an alternative source for the medium and the amino acids used in the media might be the solution for managing the high cost of glutathione production in yeast. This study uses an alternative media based on papaya and fish extract to reduce production costs. The fish extract contains glutamate, cysteine and glycine that can be utilised as a source of amino acid. This study suggested that media based on papaya extract could be employed to produce glutathione in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Moreover, administration of 5 mg/mL of fish extract could increase the glutathione production up to 36.36% as compared to a control. The optimum production of glutathione was obtained in a harvest time of 44 h culture. Therefore, further investigation by modifying the medium is warranted to produce glutathione in a cost friendly manner in the S. cerevisiae.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
