In this paper, we present a compact, inexpensive, and easy-to-use optical chip interferometer based on the telecom integrated waveguide technology. The measurement evaluation is focused on the resolution and the noise level of the sensor. The power spectral density of 100 fm Hz @ 10 kHz is reached in static conditions. The same level is obtained with the standard Allan deviation for both short and long term measurements. Dynamic performances are also evaluated with sub-nanometer measurements made with piezoelectric systems. The potential bandwidth of the sensor is very high and is currently only limited by electronics (250 kHz).
In this paper, we present an affordable interferometer with its dedicated electronics system. The interferometer uses an infrared source and is based on a telecom waveguide technology. The electronics part has been fully developed in our laboratory with available commercial components. Experimental results are provided and compared to those obtained with a computer and commercial acquisition boards.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
