Objectives
To investigate the relationships between 18 single nucleotide polymorphisms with carotid atherosclerosis and whether interactions among these genes were associated with an increased risk of carotid atherosclerosis.
Methods
Face‐to‐face surveys were conducted with individuals aged 40 or older in eight communities. A total of 2377 individuals were included in the study. Ultrasound was used to detect carotid atherosclerosis in the included population. 18 loci of 10 genes associated with inflammation and endothelial function were detected. Gene‐gene interactions were analyzed using generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR).
Results
Among the 2377 subjects, 445 (18.7%) subjects had increased intima‐media thickness in the common carotid artery (CCA‐IMT), and 398 (16.7%) subjects were detected with vulnerable plaque. In addition, NOS2A rs2297518 polymorphism was associated with increased CCA‐IMT, IL1A rs1609682, and HABP2 rs7923349 polymorphisms were associated with vulnerable plaque. Besides, GMDR analysis showed significant gene‐gene interactions among TNFSF4 rs1234313, IL1A rs1609682, TLR4 rs1927911, ITGA2 rs1991013, NOS2A rs2297518, IL6R rs4845625, ITGA2 rs4865756, HABP2 rs7923349, NOS2A rs8081248, HABP2 rs932650.
Conclusion
The prevalences of increased CCA‐IMT and vulnerable plaque were high in Southwestern China's high‐risk stroke population. Furthermore, inflammation and endothelial function‐related gene polymorphisms were associated with carotid atherosclerosis.
Background The increasing number of adolescents and college students who overuse the Internet is a global problem, brought a series of physical and mental harm to them. Systematic and standardized clinical treatment plan has not yet been formed, early intervention of its influencing factors, However, may help to reduce the symptoms of over-dependence to a certain extent. In this study, we will synthesize the present studies to evaluate the relationship and the mediating factors between life events and internet addiction disorder among adolescents and college students. Methods From inception to 25 March 2020, and contains the following databases: China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biology Medicine (CBM), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), Wan Fang Data, PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, MEDLINE. All observational studies will be included. No restriction on gender, race, or nation. Two reviewers (JW and YT) will independently conduct study selection, data extraction, and study quality assessment, any discrepancies will be settled by a third author (WP). Study quality will be assessed by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The main outcome is several scales include YDQ, CIAS-R, IAT, ASLEC, LES and other high-quality scales on IAD and life events. We will use Review Manager 5.3 software to assess bias risk and data synthesis of each study.DiscussionThe findings of this study may provide a helpful reference for the intervention of Internet addiction disorder among adolescents and college students.Systematic review registrationCRD42020177316
BackgroundMany patients with chronic insomnia disorder (CID) have gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. First-line insomnia medications do not treat GI problems. Acupuncture has a comprehensive regulative action on both CID and GI disorder and is receiving increasing attention. Recent studies indicate that both CID and GI diseases may cause abnormal brain activity. However, the neurological mechanism underlying the effect of acupuncture on such diseases is still unclear. The aim of this study is to explore the pathological mechanisms of CID with GI discomfort, as well as the main response characteristics of acupuncture treatment from multiple perspectives using multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).MethodsA total of 60 participants with CID and GI disorders will be randomly divided into two groups (real acupuncture group and sham acupuncture group; ratio of 1:1). Patients will receive 20 sessions (five sessions per week) of real acupuncture treatment or sham acupuncture treatment. The primary outcome is the aggregate score on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Secondary outcomes are scores on the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, and Self-Rating Depression Scale. Multimodal MRI scans and clinical assessments will be performed both at baseline and post-treatment. Another 30 age-, sex-, and education-matched healthy subjects will be recruited as controls and will receive MRI scans and clinical evaluations. DiscussionThis study aims to provide scientific evidence for the mechanism of acupuncture in treating CID with GI disorder using multimodal MRI imaging data on brain structure, function, and metabolism.
