Under the background of the rapid development of high-speed rail (HSR), the urban spatial distance has been significantly compressed. Exploring the impact of high-speed railways on urban consumption from a spatial perspective is conducive to further understanding and clarifying the spatial economic effects caused by the opening of high-speed railways and providing a scientific basis for the future spatial layout of high-speed railways. Based on the panel data of prefecture-level cities from 2008 to 2018, the spatial spillover effect of high-speed railways on urban consumption is explored and decomposed by building a spatial econometric model. The results show that urban consumption shows significant spatial correlation, and the conclusion is still valid under three different forms of spatial weight matrices. In addition, the high-speed railway network has a positive effect on local urban consumption and acts on cities in neighboring areas through a spatial spillover effect. Further analysis shows that the spillover effect has an effective radius of 100–500 km, which is inverted U-shaped with distance, and 300 km from the central city is the optimal radius.
Although human capital and social capital can provide knowledge and social network for organizations, existing studies are inadequate to explore how the interaction between the two types of capital shapes organizational behaviors or organizational outcomes. The present study investigates whether the linkage of human capital to social capital was compensatory or complementary, and how they impact organizational innovation in consideration of the dynamic of encouragement. Using data from more than 200 technological new ventures in China, we analyze the associations among all the parameters through bootstrapping and response surface methods. The findings suggest that organizational innovation is stronger when human and social capital are congruent and that the dynamic of encouragement fully mediates the relationship between capital congruence and organizational innovation performance. Furthermore, environmental dynamism positively moderates the relationship between capital congruence and the dynamic of the environment, that is, the relationship is stronger for new ventures in high rather than low dynamic environments. Finally, the theoretical and managerial implications of this study are discussed.
Based on the theory of entrepreneurial cognition, we examined the relationship between entrepreneurial passion and opportunity identification, and the moderating roles of environmental complexity and mediating role of entrepreneurial contextual knowledge in this relationship. Results from 246 entrepreneurs supported the hypothesis that both their entrepreneurial passion and their entrepreneurial contextual knowledge would be positively related to opportunity identification, and these relationships would be moderated by environmental complexity. Further, environmental complexity enhanced the relationship between entrepreneurial passion and opportunity identification, and also amplified the relationship between contextual knowledge and opportunity identification. The results suggest that the effect of entrepreneurs’ passion on opportunity identification depends on the level of the individual's contextual knowledge and environmental complexity.
