Leishmaniasis is considered a serious public health problem in several regions in Brazil and worldwide. This research aimed to perform a histopathological and proteomic study of parotid, submandibular and sublingual glands of BALB/c mice infected by Leishmania (L) infantum chagasi using histological, immunohistochemical and epifluorescence techniques. Twelve isogenic BALB/ c male mice, around six-to eight-weeks old, were separated into two groups: the animals of the control group were injected with 0.15 ml of NaCl, while those in the experimental group were inoculated with 5 Â 10 6 amastigote forms of Leishmania (L) infantum chagasi by the ip route. After 50 days, animals were euthanized and major salivary glands were collected to perform histological, immunohistochemical and epifluorescence techniques using anti-Caspase-2, anti-Ki-67 and anti-b-catenin antibodies, respectively. The histological and morphometric evaluation showed clusters of mononuclear inflammatory cells and a higher area and perimeter of the parotid gland. However, none of the salivary glands had morphophysiological impairment. There was no immunoreactivity to the anti-caspase-2 antibody and Ki67 expression in acinar and ductal cells in both groups. According to the immunofluorescence staining, the b-catenin antibodies did not show nuclear expression, suggesting no uncontrolled proliferation. The data obtained in this study showed population and morphological stability of major salivary glands after 50 days post-infection by Leishmania (L) infantum chagasi.
Bucosinusal communication is a complication that may occur in the transoperative period of upper molar extraction, in which the maxillary sinus ruptures. This complication can cause sinusitis, bone defects and other consequences, requiring treatment so that it is completely covered with the help of the oral mucosa of adjacent tissues. The adipose body of the cheek is popularly known as Bichat's ball, located laterally to the buccinator muscle and on the anterior border of the masseter muscle, and is often used as a graft to close intraoral defects, such as fistulas and oroantral communications. The use of the adipose body of the cheek to close the bucosinusal communication prevents food or salivary contamination in the region, which can lead to a bacterial infection. In view of the above, the objective of this study was to carry out a literature review on the use of the cheek fat pad for the treatment of oroantral communication. The research took place through a literature review of the narrative type, with a qualitative approach. Searches were carried out in the databases: Scielo, BVS, PubMed and selected articles in Portuguese and English with a temporal coverage from 2008 to 2021. It is concluded that the cheek fat pad has a versatile use in oral and maxillofacial surgery in terms of location and application, and can be used alone or in combination with other techniques.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge and literacy in oral health of mothers of children with microcephaly. Methods: It was used a sample consisting of 74 mothers of children with microcephaly, under multiprofessional monitoring at the rehabilitation center for special patients at the Microcephaly Clinic of CEIR. A validated questionnaire was used to assess the mothers' degree of knowledge about oral health and the BREALD-30 to assess the level of oral health literacy. Results: It was observed that most mothers (63.5%) studied between 8 and 11 years old. In most interviewees, family income was 1 minimum wage. There was a significant difference in the association between the level of literacy in oral health and family income (p <0.05) with a high level of literacy in oral health of mothers who had a monthly family income greater than 01 salary. Therefore, the low prevalence and severity of caries did not have a negative impact on health-related quality of life. Conclusions: The previous knowledge of literacy in the studied population contributes to a better communication between the professional and the family nucleus. As well as guides health promotion actions directed to children with microcephaly. Keywords: Child; Health Literacy; Microcephaly; Oral Health
