Believing that questions on vocational interest blanks may tempt pupils to wishful thinking or phantasy in listing their occupational choices, the author prepared an interest blank for a sampling of Detroit high school pupils. The findings and an interpretation of the results are given in this article.
Exciting new events are rapidly taking place in the realm of behavioral control, and it behooves the engineers of these events to maintain clear perspective about their basic assumptions, the foundations upon which their work is based. It seems quite paradoxical that behavior therapy, rapidly accumulating what promises to be an effective technology for behavioral modification, is in danger of narrowing its scope to the confines of the medical model, while psychoanalysis, with an almost nonexistent technology beyond free association and "the couch," is preparing to become increasingly broadened in its scope of practical operations.
