This laboratory manual is intended to furnish experimental work for an elementary college course" and is written with the idea that the various exercises "precede the lecture." Sufficient blank space is available only for the immediate recording of results. "The order of material is that of the usual standard text."The author has no prefatory statement justifying the appearance of another manual in a field already crowded with somewhat standardized books. The reviewer cannot, therefore, opine to what extent the author has fulfilled the purpose of the book. The volume, both inside and out, is inexpensively bound, the cover being of a serviceable quality of brown paper. TAPin (Training and Awareness Programme in Networks) was an eLib project which ran from 1995 to 1998. Its aim was to provide planned, targeted support in using networked resources to academic staff in Education, Law, and Life Sciences in six West Midland universities. The support was delivered by subject librarians using a model agreed by all participating institutions. Initial training was provided for these librarians, some by other eLib projects. The effects of the project were examined in an impact study, which repeated audits of network infrastructure, and of certain characteristics of academic staff and librarians carried out at the project's inception. Particular attention is given in this article to the impact of the project in respect of networked resources on academic staff attitudes and behaviour; on library and information staff perceptions and behaviour, and on library and information services themselves. The importance of cultural factors in successful institutional exploitation of networked information emerged throughout the audit data.

The results of the analyses of nine typical Illinois waters as given in Table I11 show that the sulphuric acid has no appreciable effect on the amount of ammonia obtained. While the results are not identical, the variations are within the limits of exp e h e n t a l error.
BLCMP has been providing a computerised cataloguing service for nearly 20 years. Over the last five years the emphasis of its activities has been towards the implementation of an integrated stand alone library system, BLS. The OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) module of BLS has recently undergone extensive development with the introduction of author and keyword search facilities. Features of the OPAC described in the paper include parameterisation for flexibility in screen design, novice and expert searching, the first and current (Revision 1) versions and future developments. Finally, the close working relationship between BLCMP and the library school at the City of Birmingham Polytechnic is described.
