Absrrucr :This paper presents a fast moment-based method for locating edge with subpixel accuracy. The new operator is designed for precision measurement of metal parts in areasonable time period. The algorithm will not give out wrong information even though thereisnoedgeunderthemask, whichisnotpossible for the past and present moment-based operators. An one-dimensional edge model is analysed so as to find out the way of edge detection with subpixel accuracy and the result is used to build the two-dimensional operator. The accuracy of the detector is tested under different noise conditions and is compared with other moment-based edge detectors.
