Open System Interconnection (OSI) network management standards are maturing, and opening up opportunities for the effective and integrated management of today's multi-vendor corporate communication networks. The expected user benefits include uniform management procedures, reduced training and operations cost, faster fault isolation and repair, and protecting the corporate investment in network management systems. The paper describes the requirements, architecture, and enabling technologies for the development of intelligent and integrated corporate network management systems. Next, we report on our progress with applying the described concepts to the integrated management of large data communication networks.
