Significance and Impact of the Study: Plant-derived antimicrobial natural compounds (PNACs) have been considered as alternatives to antibiotics in fighting pathogenic bacteria. However, evidence on the low resistance tendency of PNACs is very limited, and the synergistic antimicrobial activity of PNACs and antibiotics has been demonstrated in co-treatment only. It is the first time that the collateral relationship between bacterial adaptation and resistance to PNACs and antibiotics has been reported.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
