In this letter, an array-based ray tracing model and Fabry-Pérot cavity antenna covered by frequency selective surfaces (FSS) are proposed to realize the flattopped radiation pattern (FTRP). Based on the array-based model, a good FTRP can be obtained by combining the initial directivity of the feed array with the additional directivity of FSS-type partially reflective surface. By using the proposed method, a low-cost, lightweight, simple structure and dualpolarization Fabry-Pérot cavity antenna with small aperture size for FTRP is designed. From the measured results, the FTRP with more than 58°b eamwidth and less than 2 dB ripple level in the frequency band of 2.4 to 2.7 GHz for indoor communication are obtained.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
