Channel catfish, Ictaluruspunctatus, were fed a vitamin C-free diet under laboratory conditions. Specimens with 'broken-back' syndrome had vertebral injury due to osteoporosis, abnormally increased ossification, and dysplasia. There was also impairment of systemic collagen fibres and atrophy of the pancreas and haemopoietic tissue.
