In order to study the mechanical properties of tack coat for asphalt pavement, the interlaminar shear test is introduced. Under the variety condition, the direct shear test is executed. The shear strengths are fitted by linear regression theory and the Mohr-Coulomb parameters are calculated. The results show that as pavement adhesive layer materials, SBS modified emulsified asphalt performance than the ordinary emulsified asphalt, the best dosage is 0.4 kg/m2, and SBS modified emulsified asphalt adhesive layer material immersion strength increased nearly 20%. When the interface material adds the cement, the strength will also increase and indicate good shear strength. With the normal stress increased, the shear strengths are increased. The shear strengths with normal stress are affected significantly by the interfacial friction, roughness of interface and normal stress.
With the aggravation of high grade highway asphalt pavement destructions, it becomes particularly important to maintain pavement performance and enhance road economic efficiency. The asphalt pavement preventive maintenance technology is an effective technique to extend pavement services and maintain pavement performance. In this paper, we combine the decay model of pavement performance with assets value evaluation idea and establish an analytical method about preventive maintenance technology based on assets evaluation. An example of hot asphalt overlay is also presented, it is found that preventive maintenance techniques can reduce the attenuation of road infrastructure assets value and maintain pavement performance efficiently.
This paper presents a laboratory test to characterize the pavement performance of asphalt mixture containing polyolefin/ethylene copolymer modifier. The modifier is directly added into mixture like aggregates and is not necessary to modify the asphalt binder firstly, which is different with conventional modifier and is so-called dry process. Based on the aggregate grade of AC-13 mixture, the mechanical properties of polyolefin/ethylene copolymer modified hot mixtures asphalt (dry process) were studied by experimental tests, which include the high-temperature stability and water stability. The test results indicate that compared to the SBS asphalt mixture the dynamic stability and TSR improved 66% and 2.3% respectively, when the addition of RK300 is 0.3%.
