We prove Poisson limit laws for open billiards where the holes are on the boundaries of billiard tables (rather than some abstract holes in the phase space of a billiard). Such holes are of the main interest for billiard systems, especially for applications. Sinai billiards with or without a finite horizon, diamond billiards, and semi-dispersing billiards, as well as focusing billiards with slow decay of correlations, are considered.
We obtain quenched almost sure invariance principles (with convergence rates) for random Young towers if the average measure of the tail of return times to the base of random towers decays sufficiently fast. We apply our results to some independent and identically distributed perturbations of some non-uniformly expanding maps. These imply that the random systems under study tend to a Brownian motion under various scalings.
We prove the asymptotic functional Poisson laws in the total variation norm and obtain estimates of the corresponding convergence rates for a large class of hyperbolic dynamical systems. These results generalize the ones obtained before in this area. Applications to intermittent solenoids, Axiom A systems, Hénon attractors and to billiards, are also considered.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
