Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the most common occupational pathologies among dentists around the world but studies are quite limited. The present study was carried out to investigate the prevalence of MSDs among dentists in Casablanca, Morocco.Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted among the medical staff (120 dentists) of casablanca’s Dental Center, part of the Ibn Rochd University Hospital, Morocco, over a period of 3 weeks from July 24, 2017 to August 11, 2017. The study was based on a self administrated questionnaire which comprises two parts : the first part included physical characteristics, academic life, clinical practice, ergonomics and work methods ; and second part consists of the “Standardized Nordic Questionnaire” (SNQ) or Nordic style questionnaire.Results: The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in our sample was 71.67%, predominately affecting the neck, the upper and the lower back.Conclusion: Prevalence of MSDs was high among moroccan dentists and the prevention of these disorders requires the adoption of a correct posture, good working habits, an ergonomic organization of the workspace, as well as the integration of regular physical activities in order for the dentist to maintain a good quality of life.
The aim of this study was to assess the means of communication used between the dentist and the dental technician in the removable partial prosthesis and to identify the difficulties encountered by the practitioners.Materials and methods: a descriptive study has conducted among a sample of 289 dentists in Casablanca, Morocco. The survey is a questionnaire of 18 questions created by the researchers for the needs of the present study. The exclusion criteria comprised retirees, replacements, pedodontists, and exclusive orthodontists. Dentists were informed about the objectives of the survey, and their oral consent was obtained. Throughout the study, anonymity and respect for the identity of the data have been ensured. Results:The results of this study show inadequate communication between dentists and laboratory technicians, modern means of communication are still less used compared to the traditional methods like written prescriptions (98,1%) or phone (63,6%). The use of the CAD/CAM technology was estimated at (16,4%), in which the minority use it in RPDs (4,7%). Communication difficulties can lead the dentist to end the relationship with the technician (63%). Relationship difficulties are related to insufficient communication due to incomplete or poorly written instructions by the practitioner. Conclusion:The quality of communication between dentist and laboratory technician is an essential component for the prosthetic project success. the training of dentists in communication with the dental technician and the use of new technologies is essential for good communication and better efficiency.
The mandibular complete denture is a challenge for the dentist. Unfavorable anatomical and physiological conditions such low bearing surface and a significant bone resorption, often compromise the prosthetic retention.The exploitation of root stumps is a reliable alternative that leads to a better prosthetic integration by increasing the retention, if the total prosthesis is connected to these root stumps via axial ball or bar attachments.In addition, this prosthetic alternative considerably improves the patient's comfort and masticatory coefficient and favors the preservation of the bone capital, provided that the requirements of root preservation as well as clinical and laboratory techniques are respected.We would like to illustrate this by presenting a clinical case in which we used the connecting bar in the mandibular arch.
