BackgroundThe aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of autotransplantation of mature third molars to fresh molar extraction sockets using 3D replicas.MethodsTen patients underwent teeth autotransplantation with or without GBR. We observed the mobility, percussion, radiography examination, the probing depth and the masticatory function of the transplanted teeth during 2 years following up, which were transplanted into fresh molar sockets by using 3D replicas, and GBR when it is necessary.ResultsThe average extra-oral time of donor tooth had been shortened to 1.65 min when used the 3D replica. Some probing depth of the transplanted tooth were deeper than 3 mm at 4 or 5 weeks temporarily. And one patient felt slight sensitive when chewing with soft food at 4 weeks, then disappeared. The clinical examination of the autotransplantation teeth during 1 year follow-up showed no sign of failure.ConclusionsThe tooth autotransplantation using 3D replica with or without GBR is an effective method which can reduce the extra-oral time of the donor teeth and may result in less failure.
A large maxillary odontogenic cyst could intrude into the maxillary sinus. The traditional approach following surgery for such a cyst is the Caldwell–Luc procedure. However, the traditional CDL procedure is associated with more complications and damage of the sinus mucosa. The purpose of this study was to assess a new method with easier operation, which not only prevented postoperative infection but also caused less damage to the maxillary sinus mucosa. A large odontogenic cyst in the maxillary sinus of 40 patients was diagnosed through radiographic imaging and postoperative histopathology. Twenty patients were treated with maxillary sinus saline irrigation after surgery, while 20 patients underwent the traditional Caldwell–Luc procedure. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by clinical examination and radiographic imaging; the longest follow-up was 36 months. The postoperative reaction was evaluated. There was a statistically significant difference in facial swelling, visual analog scale (VAS) and temperature elevation between the 2 groups. Sinus irrigation following large odontogenic cyst surgery involving the maxillary sinus can serve as an alternative to standard CDL and has the advantages of fewer complications, reduced trauma, restoration of the mucosa and more satisfactory results.
To report a case of cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) with 15 supernumerary teeth and review the relevant literature. Diagnose and treat a CCD patient with 15 impacted supernumerary teeth in the maxilla and mandible. When CCD is accompanied by supernumerary teeth ambushed in the jaw and does not affect the health of the body, it can be regarded as a part of normal bone tissue. If X‐ray or computed tomography examination shows that supernumerary teeth affect permanent tooth eruption, the replacement process of adjacent teeth and permanent tooth eruption should be closely observed, and supernumerary teeth should be extracted in time if necessary.
