This paper considers the enhancement of socio-cultural and intercultural skills of EFL students by means of culture-related extra-curricular events. The purpose of the paper is to ground theoretically and test experimentally the principles for selecting the elements of socio-cultural component which are expedient to be included into the content of foreign languages teaching. Different approaches to develop socio-cultural and intercultural skills in EFL classrooms are analyzed. The effect of culture-related extra-curricular events on socio-cultural and intercultural skills development is presented. The authors highlight didactic characteristics of culture-related extracurricular events that can be taken into account for the enhancement of socio-cultural and intercultural skills. Main characteristics of preparation and carrying out culturerelated extra-curricular events are presented. The example of designing and implementing of culture-related extra-curricular events into EFL teaching was given. The authors come to the conclusion that culture-related extra-curricular events result in the enhancement of the level of language proficiency as well as contribute a lot to bringing up citizens, intellectually, culturally and multi-culturally developed professionals with deep awareness of intercultural values.
This paper investigates the effects of teaching English vocabulary and grammar to EFL learners through the assignments in IELTS format. The authors designed a computer-based test to evaluate the efficiency of teaching English vocabulary and grammar on the basis of assignments in IELTS format. A pre-test and a post-test were the main instruments used for data collection. The participants of the study were made to do a post-test to assess their performance based on the vocabulary and grammar learning through the tasks in IELTS format. The results of t-test for correlated data proved that the training produced a positive effect on the EFL learners' results.
This paper considers the investigation of language errors in students' speech and the mechanisms to prevent them. The types of errors (phonetic, grammar, lexical and syntactical errors) made by student from culturally diverse backgrounds are analysed. The purpose of the paper is to discuss approaches, which can help meet students' needs and highlight the problems, which students at non-linguistic higher schools might face. The teacher has also to play the role of a facilitator of better studying as ethnic, cultural and religious diversity in classroom makes the teaching process even more challenging. It is noted that the special methodological techniques will be really helpful to prevent students from negative feelings of inadequacy about their pronunciation, grammatical errors, limited vocabulary, and lack of information about cultural patterns within their new community.
Problem. The disadvantage of current dependences for determining the acceleration indicators at engine maximum brake power and driving tire-to-surface friction coefficients is that they are adequate only if the engine and transmission parameters provide power input to the drive wheels rolling without slipping regardless to speed. To eliminate this drawback, it is necessary to take into account that the power input to the drive wheels depends on the engine shaft speed, and therefore on the speed of the vehicle when accelerating. Goal. The purpose of the work is to further develop the theory of the automobile by improving the dependencies that allow determining the automobile acceleration rates and assessing the nature of its acceleration process from the design factors. Methodology. The approaches taken to achieve this goal are based on laws of physics, theoretical mechanics and the theory of automobile. Results. Analytic dependences for determining maximum and limiting automobile acceleration when speeding up depending on its design factors and speed have been improved. Dependences for determining the range of drive wheel slipping on the automobile speed when accelerating and the limiting automobile acceleration under the condition of its pitch stability have been obtained. When studying the automobile acceleration process theoretically it was found that the developed dependences allow determining the nature of automobile movement and assessing the influence of its design factors on the acceleration indicators. Originality. The obtained dependences for determining the maximum and limiting acceleration, the range of driving speeds with wheel slip when automobile accelerating allowed us to clarify the idea of the nature of movement during acceleration and the influence of automobile design factors on the acceleration indicators. Practical value. The obtained dependences can be used in designing new and improving racing cars such as dragsters, and analysing the dynamics of the vehicle when accelerating with full fuel delivery and determining the nature of driving tire-to-surface friction depending on the driving speed.
