Coffee flour (CF) from coffee pulp or husk, solid waste of coffee processing have launched in Canada since 2015. This product is claimed as certified of gluten-free, vegan, kosher, paleo, and non-GMO. Coffe flour is stated to contain three times Fe content than fresh spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.). Several receipts of cookies, donuts, and cakes using CF has been introduced as wheat flour substitution. However, the scientific publication of CF impact for health does not appear until August 2018 yet. A review has been carried out using data on Google with a maximum publication age of 15 yr. This Fe non-heme prospect is allegedly unable to be absorbed optimally by the organism. Coffee pulp and husk contain an inhibitor, such as caffeine, polyphenol, calcium, dietary fiber, manganese, magnesium, and zinc; which detain Fe absorption. On the other hand, the promoter/enhancer of Fe absorption such as vitamin C, vitamin A, and amino acid was decreased in CF processing. Several types of research have to be conducted to tackle this problem in Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry University Muhammadyah of Malang, Indonesia.
Urban in Indonesia, is no longer limited as a center of community settlement. Now the city also functions as a center of government, a central hierarchy, and a center of economic growth. As a logical consequence of the role of cities as a center of growth and economy, urban contributions to national economic growth are increasing. To overcome this problem, a portable conveyor of solar-energized drying system was designed. With the portable conveyor of solar-energized drying system, the dryer will be easily moved and flexible to use. The advantage of portable conveyor of solar-energized drying system is the drying process could be done continuously with a little human power. Therefore, this portable conveyor of solar-energized drying system is designed to use renewable energy sources. To examine the portable conveyor of solar-energized drying system, the foodstuff was used for a testing of ingredients. The portable conveyor of solar-energized drying system testing show that the amount of water content in the foodstuff reduced, the drying rate accelerate. In addition, the amount of heat energy needed for the drying process also reduced. Hence process of drying foodstuff more efficienct.
Jatropha curcas Linn. capsule husk (DH-JcL) is a residu from the manufacture of Crude Jatropha Oil. Biorefinery as part of the "four R's" was required in DH-JcL for anaerobic digestion feedstock. Analysis result and literature study was concluded that DH-JcL is a material that can be managed as biogas substrate, though the nutrient levels relatively low, and a number of other material such as volatile solid, carbohydrates, cellulose ad lignin was relatively high. The establishment of DH-JcL required two phase digestion as anaerobic microbial pretreatment and pre-acidification. The efficiency of two-phase digestion was able to increase the number of technology i.e. additives; recycling of slurry; variation in operational parameters and fixed film or biofilters utilization © 2015 PG Adinurani, RS Hendroko, A Nindita, SK Wahono, M Maizirwan, A Sasmito, YA Nugroho, T Liwang.Published by Elsevier Ltd. Abstract. The huge amount of coffee pulp waste is an environmental problem. Anaerobic fermentation is one of the alternative solutions. However, availability of coffee pulp does not appear for year-round, whereas biogas needs continuous feedstocks for digester stability. This research uses coffee pulp from Arabica Coffee Factory at Mengani, Kintamani, Bali-Indonesia. The coffee pulp was transformed into coffee pulp-hay product by sun drying for preservations to extend the raw materials through the year. Characterization of coffee pulp-hay was conducted after to keep for 15 mo for review the prospect as biogas feedstocks. Several parameters were analyzed such as C/N ratio, volatile solids, carbohydrate, protein, fat, lignocellulose content, macro-micro nutrients, and density. The review results indicated that coffee pulp-hay is prospective raw material for biogas feedstock. This well-proven preservation technology was able to fulfill the continuous supply. Furthermore, some problems were found in the recent preliminary experiment related to the density and fungi growth in the conventional laboratory digester. Further investigation was needed to implement the coffee pulp -hay as biogas feedstocks.
Hebel brick is used in making the walls of the house. One of the materials used in making hebel bricks is sand. The water content of the sand will affect the quality of the hebel bricks. The less water content in the sand, the better the quality of hebel bricks. In order to get sand with a little water content, it is necessary to do the drying process. To overcome this problem, a rotary dryer for sand drying using renewable energy, particular biomass energy sources was designed. It can be placed in a sand quarry near a river or near a beach. It is designed to have the ability to dry the wet sand by putting it in a rotary dryer, making this drying system usable both in sunny and rainy conditions. The drying process can take place continuously using heat from biomass energy. The heat is produced from the combustion process in the biomass furnace and then distributed to the rotary dryer. The advantage of this rotary dryer system could be done continuously with a little human power. Moreover, from these calculations can be analyzed the performance of this rotary dryer machine, to determine the suitability between design calculations and test results.
