This paper adopts documentary data method, questionnaire method, interviewing method and mathematical statistics method and proceeds from the respect of the cognition in the innovation ability of an coach from the high-level professional tennis athletes, in order to research into an innovation ability characterization of an ideal coach in athletes’ sight as well as differences in understanding the innovation ability of an ideal coach from the different groups of athletes, such as the ones of different genders, ages, degrees of education and sports levels. Comparing the innovation ability of the current coaches with that of ideal coaches, this paper reveals similarities and differences of the innovation ability of the current coaches and the ideal ones, in the hope of affording complete, sufficient and scientific theory evidence to further improve training ability of professional tennis coaches, to promote the scientific tennis training, and to facilitate the fast growth of tennis competitiveness.
