Several studies have revealed that the development of many chronic adult diseases is closely related to personal lifestyle1,2). For the prevention of diseases, therefore, the cultivation of a healthy lifestyle is obviously very important. In Japan, however, there are no concrete data concerning the type, content, or method of health education that could successfully induce company employees to acquire healthier lifestyles. As a preliminary study, we conducted an intervention study among employees of a bank in Osaka Prefecture, by using the Health Risk Appraisal (HRA), a tool for health education developed by Oshima et al3), and assessed its effect on health education using eight personal health practices described by Morimoto4,5). Results are described below.
