Beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agents such as pronethalol and pro pranolol have been reported to be useful in the treatment of various types of arrhythmia, including ventricular flutter and fibrillation. Recently, we experienced a patient who had been suffering from recurrent attacks of paroxysmal ventricular fibrillation, which was successfully controlled by pro pranolol (InderalR). The patient was a 22-year-old man who was admitted with a chief complaint of recurrent episodes of retrosternal distress, occasionally associated with syncope. On examination this attack was found to be due to ventricular fibrillation. Propranolol (InderalR) in 4 mg given intravenously completely suppressed the recurrent attacks after other drugs had failed. The nature of this ventricular fibrillation was difficult to point out, but a certain localized myocarditis was suspected as a focus of abnormal myocardial irritability.
A new and simple method was established to measure the tidal volume of preterm and term neonates ventilated with a Servo 900C ventilator on pressure control pattern. The expiratory tidal volume (Vte) measured by the ventilator consists of the true tidal volume (Vt) and the compressible volume (Vc) in the patient circuit. If Vte is correct and Vc is known, Vt is calculated as Vte-Vc.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
