The purpose of this study was to investigate factors such as self-esteem, depression, anger expression and social support that affect the health promoting lifestyle in middle-aged women. Number of middle-aged women participated in the survey were 150. Data were collected by means of self reported questionnaires from 1. September to 30. November 2011 and analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS windows version 17.0. There were statistically significant differences in the health promoting lifestyle according to the frequency of physical activities, frequency of hobbies or social activities and menstruation state. There were significant positive correlations between health promoting lifestyle and self-esteem, anger-control and social support. Negative correlations were found between health promoting lifestyle and depression, anger-in and anger-out. Self-esteem, social support, frequency of physical activities and frequency of hobbies or social activities were predictors of a health promoting lifestyle. Nurses should focus on factors identified in this study when developing nursing interventions to improve a health promoting lifestyle for middle-aged women.■ keyword :|Middle-aged|Women|Health Promotion|Lifestyle|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of critical thinking disposition on emotional regulation, perceived stress and communication competence of students in nursing. Methods: A total of 362 students were recruited from two nursing colleges in C and S city. Data were collected by means of self reported questionnaires from December 1 to 15, 2012 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS 18.0. Results: A positive correlation was found between critical thinking disposition and seeking support emotional regulation, active emotional regulation and communication competence. A negative correlation was found between critical thinking disposition and perceived stress. Critical thinking disposition was the strongest predictor of seeking support emotional regulation, active emotional regulation, perceived stress and communication competence. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that to enhance positive emotional regulation and communication competence and to reduce stress for nursing students, it is necessary to develop a teaching program and curriculum for increasing critical thinking disposition.
The purpose of this study was to identify the types of subjectivity on communication styles of nursing freshmen and explore their properties by using the Q Methodology. Fifty nursing freshmen of P sample classified 55 Q-statements into the normal distribution of 11 point scale. Data were collected from May to June, 2015 and analyzed by using PC-QUANL program. As a result, communication styles are identified as 'Open-interaction facilitator', 'Other-considerate listener', 'Tense-sensitive to criticism person', and 'Non-interactive observer'. Open-interaction facilitators proficiently use verbal and nonverbal expressions, openly disclosing themselves and facilitating interactions with others. Other-considerate listeners primarily consider others before themselves, with careful communication. Tense-sensitive to criticism persons are nervous, sensitive to criticism, and are distractive style, so they have difficulties in intimate interaction with others. Non-interactive observers are bystanders who observe others and feel indifferent to interactions, without any self disclosure.
