Dating violence (DV) is a major public health problem among youth. The majority of DV studies in Taiwan involve the assessment of DV without the use of a robust psychological framework to guide research accuracy. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to utilize the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to assess intention and other salient factors related to DV among university students. A two-phase, mixed-method design study was conducted among university students from seven universities in Taiwan, aged 18 to 24 years. In Phase I, questionnaires used were specifically developed based on the TPB, consisting of both direct and indirect measures related to DV. In Phase Ⅱ, questionnaire evaluation and related factors were examined through a two-step process of structural equation modelling (SEM) to test the TPB model. The results of this study found that perceived behavioral control, subjective norm, and attitude toward DV on behavioral intention accounting for 37.5% of the total variance. Among the related factors, attitude toward the behavior was the strongest (β = 0.48, p < 0.001), followed by perceived behavioral control (β = 0.19, p < 0.05). Findings from this study could expand the knowledge base in this important area and might help prevent DV.
Aim: The aim of this work is to explore the effectiveness of a mobile app to support oral mucositis care to improve the nutritional status and reduce the occurrence of oral mucositis of patients with head and neck cancer undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy.Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the optimal treatment for head and neck cancer, but oral mucositis and malnutrition are common complications.Design: Quasi-experimental study using a pre-post design was used in this work.Method: Participants were recruited from a major regional hospital in Taiwan from July 2018 to July 2020. There were 32 participants in each group: the mobile app group (Intervention Group) or routine care (Control Group). The primary outcome measure was Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA). We also collected data on grade of oral mucositis, painNnumeric Rating Scale (NRS), weight loss, haemoglobin (Hb), albumin and quality of life (QoL). Result:The PG-SGA score was significantly lower in the intervention than the control group at all three time points. Hb and albumin decreased less significantly in the intervention than the control group after 2 months. The oral mucositis grade was significantly less severe in the intervention than the control group at all three time points; for the NRS, at T2 and T3. Conclusion:Using the mobile app effectively improved nutritional status, alleviated the side effects, and improved the QoL of head and neck cancer patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy.
University Social Responsibility (USR) enhances educational development and the impact of universities on society. As a stakeholder in USR, it is imperative to develop a comprehensive literacy scale that reflects the development of students' citizenship in social engagement. Thus, this study aims to develop and validate the Health Promotion Literacy-based Scale for students in USR (HPLS-USR). A total of 200 students from USR with an average age of 19.27 participated in the study. The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used to verify the scale’s construct validity. Twenty-two items were maintained in EFA with an internal consistency Cronbach’s α of 0.92. Construct validity was supported by EFA results, confirming that the four-factor structure of the 22-item scale (personal growth, responsibility of citizenship, social interaction, and intellectual growth) have reasonable correlations to each other, explaining 61.83% of the variance in the scale. The Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin index values of 0.908 and Bartlett's Test of Sphericity (p = 0.001) verified the normal distribution of the EFA and the adequacy of the EFA sampling. These items achieved adequate factor loadings ranging between 0.44 and 0.82. This study demonstrated that the HPLS-USR has satisfactory construct validity and reliability in measuring students' literacy abilities developed in USR participation.
The COVID-19 pandemic may cause a nursing shortage. Prelicensure nursing students who are exposed to high-stress COVID-19 events are related to defective career decision-making. This study validated the COVID-19 attitude scale and clarified how their attitudes about COVID-19 affected their behavioral intentions toward career decision-making. We conducted a cross-sectional study and recruited a convenience sample of 362 prelicensure nursing students from Northern and Central Taiwan. Two measurements were applied, including the Nursing Students Career Decision-making instrument and COVID-19 attitude scale. We used AMOS (version 22.0) to perform a confirmatory factor analysis. The Cronbach α of the COVID-19 attitude scale was 0.74 and consisted of four factors. The most positive attitude was the nursing belief factor, and the least positive factor was emotional burden. Prelicensure nursing students’ COVID-19 attitudes were significantly positively associated with their career decision-making attitudes and perceived control (ß = 0.41 and ß = 0.40, respectively; p < 0.001). All the key latent variables explained significantly 23% of the variance in the career decision-making behavioral intentions module. In conclusion, the COVID-19 attitude scale is valid. Although the prelicensure nursing students’ COVID-19 attitudes had no direct effect on career decision-making intentions, they had a direct effect on career decision-making attitudes and the perceived control.
