The article considers the influence of masters, teachers in the Institute of Civil engineers – I.S. Kitner, V.A. Schroter on the activity of Rostov city architect N.M. Sokolov in the late XIX – early XX century Sokolov. Unknown facts of an early stage of his creative activity are revealed. The features of his creative method formed under the influence of «architects-mentors» are presented. The problem of the study is to identify the characteristic of the architectural activity of the mentors who influenced the future life and creative activity of Nikolai Matveevich as the city architect of Rostov-on-don, whose objects form the historical part of the city, many of which are objects of cultural heritage. The study is aimed at revealing the features of the architecture of the «brick style» in the works of Sokolov, formed under the influence of teachers of the Institute of Civil engineers – Kitner, Schroter – adherents of the rational direction of architecture of the XIX century. The article introduces the new factual data, the comparative analysis of Kitner and Schroter analogues with objects of Sokolov, the systematic information about the life of Sokolov, his creative legacy
The article is devoted to the identification of romantic trends in the work of the Rostov city architect of the late XIX - early XX century Nikolai Matveevich Sokolov, reveals unknown facts of this stage of his creative activity. Most of N. M. Sokolov's works are objects of cultural heritage of regional and Federal significance. The architect was a consistent supporter of the rational direction of architecture, was a master of the «brick style». At the same time in his works, in the apartment houses under consideration, romantic features are clearly traced. The purpose of the study is to consider the objects inherent in the romantic direction of the second half of the XIX-early XX centuries, their analysis and systematization of data. The problem of this study is to identify romantic trends in the works of architect N. M. Sokolov, which influenced the creative activity of Nikolai Matveevich as a city architect of Rostov-on-don, the objects of which form the historical part of the city. The authors revealed new facts of the biography and creativity of the architect, introduced new archival materials into scientific use, systematized information about the life of the architect and his creative heritage. Special attention is paid to the current state and protection of the works of architect Nikolai Sokolov Matveevich.
The aim of this work is to identify the architectural and artistic features of A.N. Panin‟s building and carry out a detailed analysis of plastic facades, which represent a synthesis of gothic and pseudo-Russian styles. The building locates in the historic part of Rostov-on-Don, at the intersection of the oldest streets of the city – Beregovvya and Pochtovyi (now Ostrovskii) streets in Rostov-on-Don. The study identifies the features of plastic facade design using composite techniques and brick decoration, characteristic of eclecticism, which combines different styles in the plastic design of facades. The object has not been studied enough at the moment, although it is one of the cultural heritage objects designed by N. M. Sokolov, whose objects form the historical part of Rostov-on-Don.
The article considers the Nikolaev city hospital in Rostov-on-don and a complex of city hospital in Azov constructed under the project of the city architect of the end of XIX - the beginning of XX century Nikolai Matveevich Sokolov. Sokolov is a representative of the rational direction of architecture of the XIX century. The article solves the problem of determining in these works the general trends inherent in the architecture of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, as well as the features of the N. M. Sokolov work. Search and identification of analogs of medical institutions which architecture influenced external and internal shape of the considered objects is made. The basic conditions of design, value of objects in historical building are also defined. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the creative method of the master on the example of the design of medical institutions. The article reveals the unknown facts of the creative activity of Nikolai Matveevich Sokolov, introduces new factual data, systematizes information about the creative heritage of the architect. A comparative analysis of the studied objects and known examples of hospital architecture of the late XIX - early XX centuries are performed, similarities and features of the works of N. M. Sokolov are identified.
This paper examines the historical emergence of the oldest markets: the Nakhichevan Covered Market on the Market Square (1914) and the Covered Market on the Old Bazaar (1893), reveals their architectural, artistic and design features. Reconstruction, restoration and preservation of objects in modern urban conditions are investigated, new factual data are obtained. The purpose of the study is to review and compare the covered markets of Rostov-on-Don and Nakhichevan-on-Don. Each object was analyzed from the point of view of its location in the structure of the urban fabric, functional and planning solutions, design features, as well as architectural and artistic features, historical and cultural value preserved to the present day. As a result of the conducted research, it was revealed that both objects have similar historically established locations and market formations in the emerging urban structure, similar functional planning and design solutions. Architectural solutions have similar compositional features of building facades and volumetric solutions, but there are characteristic architectural and artistic features for each pavilion. In modern conditions, the objects have been preserved in good condition, but have lost their original appearance of the «brick style». Both buildings were originally made by the method of open masonry of red brick without the use of plaster and paint. As a result of comparative analysis, it was revealed that the Indoor Market in the Old Bazaar (1893) served as an analogue for the Nakhichevan indoor market on the Market Square.
