Multiple morphologies of aggregates (micelle-like spheres, vesicles, tubules) from well-defined polystyrene-b-poly[(2-bd-glucopyranosyloxy)ethyl acrylate] (PS-b-PGEA) diblock copolymers in diluted aqueous solutions were observed by transmission electron microscopy.
The`living' radical polymerization of 2-(2',3',4',6'-tetra-O-acetyl-b-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-ethyl acrylate (AcGEA) by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is reported. It has been found that the polymerization kinetics are ®rst-order, the molecular weights increase linearly with conversion, and the molecular weight distribution remains narrow when the polymerization conversion is below 70%. Well-de®ned P(AcGEA) was obtained, and the O-protecting acetyl groups of P(AcGEA) were quantitatively removed by reacting with dilute CH 3 ONa solution in CHCl 3 /CH 3 OH to afford well-de®ned poly[(2-b-D-glucopyranosyloxy)ethyl acrylate] (PGEA).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
