Metabolic reprogramming is one of the main characteristics of malignant tumors, which is due to the flexible changes of cell metabolism that can meet the needs of cell growth and maintain the homeostasis of tissue environments. Cancer cells can obtain metabolic adaptation through a variety of endogenous and exogenous signaling pathways, which can not only promote the growth of malignant cancer cells, but also start the transformation process of cells to adapt to tumor microenvironment. Studies show that m6A RNA methylation is widely involved in the metabolic recombination of tumor cells. In eukaryotes, m6A methylation is the most abundant modification in mRNA, which is involved in almost all the RNA cycle stages, including regulation the transcription, maturation, translation, degradation and stability of mRNA. M6A RNA methylation can be involved in the regulation of physiological and pathological processes, including cancer. In this review, we discuss the role of m6A RNA methylation modification plays in tumor metabolism-related molecules and pathways, aiming to show the importance of targeting m6A in regulating tumor metabolism.
Home quarantine may lead to families developing a variety of psychological distress. The purpose of this study was to examine the psychological status of children and their parent during 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in China. Data were collected from children ( n = 1360) and their parent ( n = 1360) in China using online survey during February 2020. Demographic information, media exposure, and psychological status including anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms were assessed using self-report measures. The results indicated that, for children, 1.84% experienced moderate anxiety, 2.22% experienced depression and 3.16% met the diagnostic criteria for PTSD; for parent, 1.18%, 0.01% and 3.60% experienced moderate anxiety, severe depression, and moderate depression, respectively, and 3.53% met the diagnostic criteria for PTSD. Moreover, excessive media exposure ( β = −0.08 ~ 0.13, p s < 0.05) was a risk factor for anxiety and PTSD for children, a positive factor against anxiety and depression for parent. Being a mother ( β = 0.07 ~ 0.21, p s < 0.01), being younger ( β = −0.09 ~ −0.07, p s < 0.05), lower levels of educational attainment ( β = −0.17 ~ −0.08, p s < 0.01) and family monthly income ( β = −0.17 ~ −0.11, p s < 0.05) were risk factors for anxiety, depression and PTSD for parent. Findings suggested that children and their parent in non-severe area didn’t suffer major psychological distress during the outbreak. Factors associated with lower levels of mental health problems were identified to inform the use of psychological interventions to improve the mental health of vulnerable groups during the pandemic.
Three hundred and seventy-six middle school students in Wenchuan County were assessed three and one-half years after the Wenchuan earthquake to examine the effects of rumination on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and posttraumatic growth (PTG). The results revealed that recent intrusive ruminations partly mediated the relationship between intrusive rumination soon after the earthquake with PTSD but not with PTG. Recent deliberate rumination partly mediated the relationship between intrusive rumination soon after the earthquake and PTG but not PTSD. Moreover, recent deliberate rumination also partly mediated the relationship between recent intrusive rumination with PTG but not with PTSD. Overall, intrusive rumination soon after the earthquake had an effect on PTSD but not on PTG through recent intrusive rumination and affected PTG but not PTSD through deliberate recent rumination. Furthermore, intrusive rumination soon after the earthquake affected PTG but not PTSD by recent deliberate rumination following recent intrusive rumination. More importantly, the present study also found that PTSD exhibited no relation to PTG. These results suggest that PTSD and PTG are influenced by different mechanisms, which further indicates that PTSD and PTG represent two separate dimensions of experience after adversity.
It has been reported that the biological functions of enzymes could be altered when they are encapsulated in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) due to the interactions between them. Herein, we probed the interactions of catalase in solid and hollow ZIF-8 microcrystals. The solid sample with confined catalase is prepared through a reported method, and the hollow sample is generated by hollowing the MOF crystals, sealing freestanding enzymes in the central cavities of hollow ZIF-8. During the hollowing process, the samples were monitored by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) spectroscopy, electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and nitrogen sorption. The interfacial interactions of the two samples were studied by infrared (IR) and fluorescence spectroscopy. IR study shows that freestanding catalase has less chemical interaction with ZIF-8 than confined catalase, and a fluorescence study indicates that the freestanding catalase has lower structural confinement. We have then carried out the hydrogen peroxide degradation activities of catalase at different stages and revealed that the freestanding catalase in hollow ZIF-8 has higher activity.
