In some cases, EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students may be lack critical thinking in reading, particularly in Indonesia. The purposes of this study were to investigate the implementation of Project-Based-Learning (PjBL) on critical reading to enhance critical thinking skills and describe the students’ responses on the implementation of PjBL in critical reading to enhance critical thinking skills. This research employed a mixed-method approach. The subjects of this research were 26 EFL students at STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo, Indonesia. The data were obtained by using observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion. This study produced several results. Firstly, the implementation of PjBL on critical reading course to enhance critical thinking skills consisted of three stages: 1) planning, 2) implementing, and 3) evaluating. Secondly, based on the interviews, 88.89% of the students were motivated in working on the assignments by using the PjBL model, and 54% of them were excellent. Thirdly, based on the questionnaire, most students (73%) chose “strongly agree” with critical thinking skills. It is hoped that the findings of this research can give information about students’ critical thinking and give an appropriate learning model to enhance the students’ critical thinking.
Kemampuan bahasa Inggris dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini mengacu pada program cerdas pendidikan dengan memberdayakan mahasiswa untuk pendampingan kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa sekolah menengah pertama. Fokus kegiatannya pada tata bahasa Inggris dengan materi Tenses. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah 35 siswa MTs NU Durung Bedug Sidoarjo. Masing-masing siswa memiliki kesulitan dalam memahami materi Tenses yang dibuktikan dengan hasil pre-test. Kegiatan peningkatan kemampuan bahasa Inggris ini meliputi pre-test, penyampaian materi, penguatan materi, permainan edukasi, latihan soal, pembahasan soal, dan post-test. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2021. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah siswa dapat memahami bentuk kalimat Tenses dengan suasana belajar yang inovatif dan strategi pembelajaran yang menyenangkan. Selain itu, siswa dapat menerapkan bentuk kalimat tersebut dengan baik dan benar. Kegiatan ini menjadi bekal siswa mampu menjadi pendidik sebaya untuk kemampuan berbahasa Inggris.
The purpose of this study is to describe the locutionary forms of Ustadz Faqih Syarif’s motivation in the Thanks God Tomorrow is Friday event on Smart FM radio. Ustadz Faqih Syarif’s motivational illocutionary speech act in the thanks god tomorrow is Friday event on smart fm radio. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The method of data collection in this research is the method of listening. The source of this research data is a recording of the motivator event Ustadz Faqih Syarif in the Thanks god tomorrow is Friday event on smart Fm radio. Based on the presentation of the results of the research and discussion, it is concluded that the forms of locutionary speech acts in the Thanks God Tomorrow is Friday event are divided into two types, namely development techniques and indirect speech acts. development techniques are dominated by informative, descriptive speech acts, while narrative speech acts are declarative, interrogative and imperative.
