Seagrass is a coastal plant that is not only important in maintaining the stability of coastal ecosystems, but also provides many benefits in daily life. Seagrass has long been used as traditional medicine by coastal residents in South Lombok. The purpose of this study was to screen the main types of secondary metabolites contained in seagrass in the southern coast of Lombok Island and to obtain information about the species of seagrass used as traditional medicine for certain types of diseases in local residents. Seagrass samples were taken from the south coast and the extraction process was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol as solvent. The crude extract obtained was then subjected to qualitative and quantitative phytochemical tests. The phytochemical qualitative test showed that Syringodium isoetifolium, Enhalus acoroides, Halophila decipiens, Cymodocea rotundata, Thalassia hemprichii, and Cymodocea cerulata contain compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and phenols. Quantitative phytochemical analysis showed that E. acoroides had the highest total flavonoid content (3.7 mg QE/g) compared to that of other species, while the highest total phenolic content was indicated by T. hemprichii (33 mg GAE/100 g). The results of interviews related to the ethnomedicinal aspects of seagrass indicate that four species commonly used by local residents in healing diseases are E. acoroides, S. isoetifolium, T. hemprichii, and C. cerulata. They are widely used both as an external medicine (itching-skin diseases and external wounds) and internal medicine, such as heart, cancer, and kidney disease. Based on the phytochemical profile and ethnomedicine studies, the four seagrass species can be an alternative source in obtaining bioactive compounds for the development of specific drugs in the future.
Ocean literacy is knowledge about the biophysical and ecological aspects of the ocean that have relevance to the topic of biology learning. This study aims to classify the profiles on ecosystem topics of t he ocean literacy of the high school students of SMA 1 Mataram. This study uses an observational approach with a purposive sampling technique, while the data analysis used is descriptive statistical analysis. Furthermore, the samples of this study are 186 of 848 students. The classification of studentsââ¬â¢ literacy on ocean ecological aspects in SMA 1 Mataram are: the percentage of correct answers on indicator 1 is 41.55%, indicator 2 is 68.55%, and indicator 3 is 41.40%. This study concludes that high school students at the study site have not had sufficient knowledge about ocean ecology. However, some materials, such as ocean ecosystems, can be a source of learning to improve students' literacy about ocean ecologies, such as tropical structures in a coral reef, seagrass, and mangrove ecosystems. Therefore, it is necessary to innovate learning resources from ocean environments, especially schools close to the sea, such as a high school in the study site and other high schools in other places
Red dragon fruit or Hylocereuspolyrhizus is one of the most popular fruits in Indonesia. Besides being consumed directly, H. Polyrhizus processed into various forms of processed food products such as jams, syrups, sweets, tea, and functional drinks. Unfortunately, massive quantities of solid waste, including H. polyrhizuspeel produced every year, continues to increase from year to year. Their disposal led to severe environmental issues. Whereas, H. polyrhizuspeels are abundant in beneficial secondary metabolites compoundespecially flavonoid and phenolic. The presence of flavonoid and phenolic content provides many benefits in the development of natural medicines, especially as antioxidants. However, the research related to exploring antioxidant potentials of H. polyrhizuspeel is still very limited. This study aimed to explore the phytochemical of H. polyrhizuspeel and their role as a natural-antioxidant agent. H. polyrhizuspeels were extracted through a maceration method using 96% of ethanol as their solvent. A total phenolic essay is determined by the method of Folin-Ciocalteu reagent using gallic acid as a reference. AlCl3 reagent is used to analyse the flavonoid content by comparing with quercetin. Antioxidant activity was done by DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging methods. The total phenolic and flavonoid content of H. polyrhizuspeel extract (HPPE) at 107.35 ± 8.02 mg GAE/g and 108.82 ± 12.69 mg QE/g respectively. Furthermore, antioxidant activity of HPPE showed IC50 value at 136.20 ± 0.70 Lig/ml Lig/ml with DPPH methods and 390.70 ± 1.25 Lig/ml ug/ml with ABTS methods. Based on this recent study, HPPE has a moderate antioxidant activity by reducing free radicals in dose dependent manner.
