It has been proved that speed guidance strategy could improve traffic safety and reduce fuel consumption effectively. There have been a large number of speed guidance experiments and practical applications in some developed countries, such as Britain, Germany, and America. The development of three guidance methods' research at home and abroad is introduced in this paper, they are group speed guidance, speed guidance with driver assistance system, and dynamic speed guidance. Then three experiment methods are summarized. Finally, the development trend of speed guidance in VII is presented. Keywords: speed guidance; variable message signs; driver assistance system; vehicle infrastructure integration
INTRODUCTIONRoad transportation is one of the main components of the transportation industry. How to improve its safety and save energy are key issues for society. The operation speed has the closest relationship with traffic safety and fuel economy among many factors (Pei, Cheng, Dai, et al. 2008). The suitable speed not only can reduce the accident rate, but also can improve energy efficiency and reduce unnecessary fuel emissions. Meanwhile, with the increase of urban transportation pressure, the traditional traffic control methods cannot satisfy the current demand for safety, efficiency and energy consumption. Speed guidance theory has been used as one of the key techniques to alleviate above problems effectively.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
