Lightning surges are dominant in the electric power grids for medium voltage and they determine the choice of surge arresters. The paper presents simulation models of electric grid 20 kV, different variants for investigations of the influence of the surges according to the kind of electric power grid and kind of surges as well the results.Keywords-metal oxide surge arrester; lightning overvoltage; medium voltage grid.
