Earlier literature studies the relationship between Internet use and individual tolerance, but little research explores these links in the context of China. This article analyzes the impact of Internet use on individuals’ tolerance using Chinese national social survey data from 2015 to 2021. The results find that Internet use has a significant positive effect on individual social tolerance (ST) and moral tolerance (MT), and this effect is still valid after dealing with the endogenous problem by instrumental variables and the propensity score matching method. Moreover, the division of university education, unit system, and Hukou moderate the relationship between Internet use and individual social tolerance. Last, opportunity fairness and outcome fairness play the suppressing effects, not mediating effects. This article clarifies the role of digital technology in the development of high-quality economics and proposes that the government should pay more attention to changes in social attitudes.
Background and Objectives: Constructing a national fitness service system is important in realizing high-quality development. This study analyze the impact and mechanism of digital media use on physical activity (PA) in the elderly.
Research Design and Methods: This study uses the China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey data. At first, we uses the ordinary least square model (OLS) and binary selection modelto test the relationship between digital media use and elderly’s PA.Then, we uses the three-step causal analysis and Bootstrap methods to test whether there is a mediating effect.
Results: The study found that: first, physical activity of the elderly involves multiple difficulties, such as lack of PA venues, PA organizations and PA guidance. Second, the use of digital media such as smartphones and the internet have a positive impact on the elderly’s PA, and this conclusion still holds after using multiple robustness tests. Thirdly, promoting the elderly’s participation in community governance, enhancing interpersonal support of the elderly, and improving positive efficacy of the elderly are mediating mechanisms.
Discussion and Implications: This study highlights the importance of using digital media, upgrading sports public service resources, participating in community governance, and building social support for the elderly.
Few studies have used China’s latest economic data to verify the interaction between coal price fluctuation and vegetable price fluctuation. Therefore, the sharing of existing knowledge in the academic community is mainly reflected in this paper, which explores the influence between coal prices and agricultural product prices for the first time. Further, it supplements the verification of the effective parameters of vegetable price fluctuation in academia. The current study investigates the relationship between coal prices (thermal coal price) and agricultural product prices (vegetable prices) in China from 2016 to 2021. It uses separate time-series models to verify the effect of China’s coal price fluctuation on the price of agricultural products and explores the effect of the coal price on the vegetables’ price trend. The results confirm that the thermal coal price significantly impacts and positively affects vegetable prices. There is also a linkage between the price of coal and the security of agricultural products. It might mainly be due to coal usage in various stages of the growing, storage, transportation, and distribution of agricultural products. Higher coal prices may lead to higher agricultural prices, threatening China’s coal-dominant energy structure. These higher coal prices will endanger domestic energy security and agricultural security. Finally, this study also suggests ways to manage the effect of increased coal prices on agricultural product prices and then puts forward policy suggestions.
