This experimental research is aiming at finding out which media is more appropriate to enhance the students’ ability in writing an English-language qualitative research proposal, Blog or Slide? This is also to find out whether students’ reasoning level influences their writing ability and whether there is any interaction between teaching media and reasoning level. This experimental research was conducted on the students of English Language Education of IAIN Surakarta based on the pre-test post-test control group design. The experimental group consisted of 25 students and control group consisted of 29 students. Two-stage sampling technique, purposive sampling and then cluster sampling, was used to choose the subjects. To analyze the data, the researcher used Two-Way ANOVA technique. The research results show that using Blog media is more effective to enhance the students’ ability in writing an English research proposal compared to using Slide. The students’ reasoning level also influences their writing ability. Furthermore, there is an interaction between teaching media and reasoning level towards students’ ability in writing an English-language research proposal. The students’ with high reasoning level taught by using Blog have higher writing ability compared to those with high reasoning level taught by using Slide. Moreover, the students with low reasoning level taught by using Blog also have higher writing ability compared to those with low reasoning level taught by using Slide.
Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan membuat software media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dan PAI yang diberi nama SMILapp. SMILapp berisi beberapa kisah Rasulullah Muhammad SAW dalam dua bahasa, yaitu Indonesia dan Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan tingkat keberterimaan SMILapp oleh pengguna dan (2) mendeskripsikan kekurangan dan kelebihan yang dimiliki oleh SMILapp menurut pengguna. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian research and development yang dilaksanakan di SD N Kartasura 2 Sukoharjo pada bulan April-Agustus 2018. Langkah penelitian yang dilaksanakan antara lain: penelitian dan pengumpulan data (research and information collecting), perencanaan (planning), pengembangan produk awal (develop preliminary form of product), uji coba produk awal / uji coba terbatas (preliminary field testing), penyempurnaan produk awal (main product revision). Pada tahap pengembangan produk awal dan uji coba awal dilakukan tes uji terhadap software melalui alpha testing dan beta testing. This research is aimed at finding out whether the use of Kahoot! application can increase the students’ critical reading ability, learning autonomy, and their learning participation in Critical Reading learning process. This research was conducted at the English Education Program Study of IAIN Surakarta involving 36 students as the research subjects. This classroom action research consisted of 2 cycles; 5 meetings for each cycle, with 1 pre-test and 2 post-tests. Based on the research results, it can be found out that the mean of pre-test scores is 25.56, the mean of post-test 1 is 44.39, and the mean of post-test 2 is 66.17; it means that the use of Kahoot! application can increase the students’ critical reading ability. The results of the questionnaire consisting of 9 indicators show that the use of Kahoot! application can increase the students’ learning autonomy. Furthermore, results from observation also show that the students’ learning participation increased during the learning process when Kahoot! application was applied. The students also assumed that the use of Kahoot! application can increase their learning participation.
