This paper describes an educational tool development of a magnetic levitation system using a PLC. In order to learn the feedback control theory easily, we propose the method to design the feedback controller by a physical knowledge. The magnetic levitation system is constructed by mechanical and electrical systems. The feedback control gains can be decided by specifying the damping rate and the natural frequency for the mechanical system and the time constant for the electrical system. The feedback controller model designed by MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R) is converted into PLC program by PLC coder of MATLAB toolbox. The controller program is implemented into PLC controller by Sysmac(R) Studio software of PLC development environment. We confirmed that it is possible to implement the feedback control of the magnetic levitation by using PLC controller from the experimental results.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
