Recently, telemonitoring of vital signs has gained a lot of research interest. Especially for electrocardiogram (ECG), which is among the most frequently measured vital sign. However, the integration of classical ECG Holter in wearables is problematic since shielded cables and gel electrodes are required to get ECG signals of highest quality. We have recently introduced a novel sensing architecture based on active electrodes (so-called cooperative sensors) that significantly reduces the cabling complexity of the monitoring device. After briefly recalling the principle of cooperative sensors this paper details how they address rejection of common-mode voltage induced by electromagnetic disturbances. The proposed approach uses an auto-identification technique based on a continuous-time calibration of the sensor system and a digital control loop. To demonstrate the reliability of the proposed approach, a 12-lead ECG monitoring system was implemented with the new common-mode rejection method. Measurements on four healthy volunteers showed that the signal quality obtained with the cooperative-sensor system (using dry electrodes) is equivalent to the one measured with a gold standard medical device (using gel electrodes) in exercise stress tests.
Abstract-The linear motion of the Corner Cube Mechanism developed for the infrared sounder of the third generations of Meteosat weather satellites requires a high level of accuracy. The system is subject to external micro-vibration perturbations from surrounding instruments, which cannot be rejected with the current PID controllers with notch filters. A data-driven H∞ robust controller design method is proposed to improve the control performance. The method uses only frequency-domain data and satisfies the constraints on the weighted infinity-norm of sensitivity functions using the convex optimization algorithms. The frequency response of the system is identified from the finite element model of the system. The designed controller is validated in simulation. The performance improvement with respect the PID controller with notch filters is illustrated via experimental results.
Distributed renewable energy sources (RES), such as photovoltaic systems (PV), can contribute to a reduction in the power quality in distribution grids due to higher power oscillations both in absorption and generation. In this work, by means of a statistical approach, the quality of supply at the point of common connection is evaluated for different PV sizes and also for different levels of aggregated loads sharing a single PV installation as can happen in multi-occupancy building. The role of incentive schemes in Switzerland and UK in driving the choice for the installation of a specific PV size is evaluated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
