Strontium I 1400 Synthesis and Crystal Structure of a New Strontium Borate, Sr2B16O26. -Colorless, block-like crystals of the new title compound are obtained unexpectedly from the solid state reaction of Bi2O3, SrCO3, and H3BO3 (Au crucible, 735°C, 14 d) and characterized by single crystal XRD, and IR spectroscopy. Sr2B16O26 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4. The crystal structure consists of a three-dimensional network of [B16O20O12/2] 4anions, formed by 12 BO3 triangles and 4 BO4 tetrahedra. The structure affords intersecting open channels in which Sr 2+ cations reside. -(TANG, Z.-H.; CHEN*, X.; LI, M.; Solid State Sci. 10 (2008) 7, 894-900; Coll. Mater. Sci. Eng., Beijing Univ.
