Due to the positive effects of resilience on different dimensions of health, the aim of this study was to propose and examine a model for a deeper understanding of the predictive factors of resilience. In this hypothetical model, self-esteem was suggested as the mediator of the relationship between spiritual health and resilience. This correlational design's statistical sample consisted of 240 university students who were chosen via multilevel cluster sampling from different faculties of Iran University of Medical Sciences in 2018. For data collecting, the Spiritual Health Questionnaire, Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale were utilized, and for data analysis, the Pearson correlation method and structural equation modeling were calculated using SPSS 18 and LISREL 8.5 software. According to the results of the current study, self-esteem played a partially mediating role in the relation between spiritual health and resilience. The fitness indices demonstrated satisfying fitness of the model. Since spiritual and religious beliefs are important topics in the lives of the people of Iran, it is possible to strengthen the field of self-esteem and resilience through education on spirituality and increase their positive attitudes toward life.
Objective: Recognizing the status of mental health literacy among women and girls as effective and key individuals in family and society seem to be essential. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate depression literacy among women and girls in Tehran on prevention and effective interventions for improving depression. Method: This study was part of a large mental health literacy project on residents of Tehran in 2017, with a sample size of 1023 girls and women aged 16-68 years. Random Digit Dialing (RDD) sampling was done using the Australian questionnaire, whose Persian version’s validity and reliability was tested in our previous study. Data were analyzed by SPSS 21 software. In order to determine the effect of demographic variables on predicting depression literacy among participants, multiple regression analysis was performed. Results: Receiving counseling, relaxation training, having physical activity, and studying self-help books were the most helpful items, respectively, from the participations’ point of view. More than 70% of participants agreed with avoiding stressful situations and close relationship with family and friends, while only 49.8% agreed with coping skills learning. Based on the regression analysis, only higher education and the history of exposure to a person with similar Vignette problem were able to predict mental health literacy in the area of intervention and prevention. Conclusion: Considering the effects of women’s and girls’ depression on individual, family, and even social life, more attention should be paid to improve depression literacy in this group.
Background Due to the need to identify problems related to mental health among students and their proper management by offering specialized medical services to them, recently a relevant research project has been fully implemented in schools of all grades in Iran. Since the only way to measure the effectiveness and find the strengths and weaknesses of a program is to evaluate it, the present study aims to monitor and evaluate the mentioned project in order to improve the quality of project implementation, identify defects and shortcomings and upgrade the existing system. Methods The present study was a qualitative study using conventional content analysis that used a semi-structured in-depth interview to obtain information from a group of stakeholders. Selected instructors, teachers, principals, and designers of the School Mental Health Promotion Program were the target of the study. Results The findings of the present study were presented in four categories of program strengths, program weaknesses, factor the s preventing achievement of program objectives and recommendations for program improvement. It is to be noted that 14 subcategories were also devised, and finally, 50 codes were extracted. The overall results of the evaluation of the School Mental Health Program showed its effectiveness. Conclusions The new and practical the model of School Mental Health Program has opened a new perspective to school-based interventions. However, the expectation of full implementation and continuation of this program in the short term and with limited resources does not seem very realistic because making change is often challenging and fraught with problems and obstacles.
