This study was carried out to evaluate 40 kenaf accessions for forage yield and quality at Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2009. Forage yield and quality traits were measured at the initial flowering stage. The kenaf accessions showed highly significant variation for most of trait studied. Plant dry matter yield ranged from 5286 kg ha -1 (Everglade 41) to 16801 kg ha -1 (IX51 J Fundam Appl Sci. 2016, 8(2S), 12-30 13 Crude protein content of the leaf ranged from 13.6% (G46) to 22.3% (75-71) and it was higher than stem which is ranged from 2.7 % (FDW-75-8) to 7.5 % (K465/117). Leaf ADF were significantly different among the accessions, where FDW 75-82 gave the highest (24.7%) while C74 gave the lowest (16%). Broad-sense heritability was highest for days to flowering (h B 2 = 97.6%) and lowest for CP of stem (h 2 = 11.2 %). In conclusion IX51, Cuba2032 (with high yield), 75-71 and Everglade 41 (with high CP content), were the most superior among the 40 kenaf accessions evaluated and were found highly potential for forage. These accessions can therefore be utilized in further breeding programs to produce new kenaf varieties with high feed value for ruminant consumption.
This experiment was conducted to optimize the culture conditions to induce calli from chilli pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) local cultivar. The mature seeds were surface sterilized for one min with 70% Ethanol followed by 20 min with (0%, 2%, 4% or 6%) NaOCl and were germinated on MS medium with 2 mg/L GA 3 . Seedlings and mature fruits were used as explants source. The placenta, pericarp, hypocotyls, cotyledonal leaves, shoot tips and roots were cultured on MS media supplemented with.0 mg/L). Callus fresh weight was recorded after 4 weeks in culture. The results showed that the best sterilizing method was with 70% Ethanol followed by 20 mints with (4% or 6%) NaOCl, however 6% NaOCl reduced seed's viability. Callus was induced from all explants cultured on MS media supplemented with IAA and Kinetin except the placenta and the pericarp. The results showed that the hypocotyls surpass all other explants in the mean callus fresh weight which was 160.58 mg compared with 147.81 mg, 134.95 mg, and 122.33 mg for cotyledonal leaves, shoot tips and roots respectively. Moreover the analysis of the interaction between the growth regulators and the explants showed that 2 mg/L IAA and Kinetin had significant effect on callus mean fresh weight which was (309.74, 339.14, 358.48, and 284.64) mg for the shoot tips, cotyledonal leaves, hypocotyls and roots, respectively. On the other hand, 2 mg/L 2,4-D or NAA was the best concentration for callus induction from the placenta and the pericarp. The pericarp gave a mean fresh weight of 276.90 mg in the presence of 2,4-D compared with 253.60 mg for the placenta. Moreover the pericarps gave significantly higher fresh weight than the placenta with an average of 210.3mg and 184.9 mg respectively in the presence of 2 mg/L NAA. In conclusion the best sterilization method of chilli pepper seeds is by 70% ethanol for one minute followed by 20 min in 4% (NaOCl). The best explants for callus induction only is the Hypocotyls grown on MS medium supplemented with 2 mg/L of IAA and Kinetin under the conditions of the current experiment.
Introduction:The purpose of this study was to assess the status of diabetes management among elderly people living in Isfahan nursing homes using the Donabedian framework in three parts: structure, process, and outcome.
Methods:In 2018, the current descriptive-cross-sectional approach was used in 13 nursing homes in Isfahan. Data was collected using a dependable and valid research-created checklist that evaluated diabetes management through three components: organizational structure (8 dimensions and 33 items), processes (3 dimensions and 23 items), and outcomes (2 dimensions and 7 items). Data was collected by observing the equipment and human resources, interviewing key informants and nurses, reviewing documents, and collecting blood and urine samples under standard conditions. Results: Structure, process, and outcome mean scores were 34.5±2.6, 38.5±5.9, and 65.6±13.9, respectively. The highest and lowest structure scores were associated with "referral system" and "trained personnel," respectively; process scores were associated with "counseling and risk factor reduction" and "immunization," and outcome scores with "physical examination and history taking" and "documentation of laboratory results." The mean score of structure was found to have a direct relationship with process and outcome (p < 0.05). There was also a direct relationship (p <0.05) between the mean process and outcome scores. Linear regression analysis revealed that structure was a significant predictor of outcome (p = 0.01).
Conclusions:The findings revealed some issues with the structure, process, and outcome of providing appropriate diabetes management care in nursing homes. To achieve positive results in this area, it is necessary to focus on the human resources, facilities, and equipment required to manage diabetes in nursing homes.
